Turner School of Construction Mgmt & Pace SBDC Contractor Training Program

Pace University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) collaborated with Turner Construction Company on the Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) & Small Business Contractor Training Program. This free program consisted of a seven week, fourteen session series through the Turner School of Construction Management that aimed to help our program participants develop strategies for landing new contract opportunities. The course was taught by Turner employees and also included presentations by Pace SBDC staff, small business lenders as well reps from the US Small Business Administration (SBA) and Empire State Development (ESD).

Throughout the seven weeks, our participants learned the essentials of the construction management business, from the technical (Building Information Modeling, estimating, procurement) to the managerial (insurance and bonding, lean construction, leadership, safety) to the administrative (accounting, responding to an RFP, document management). In addition to coursework, the program creates opportunities for participants to network with peers, instructors and others in the construction industry. The program concluded with a graduation ceremony in which nearly 40 program participants were awarded with a workshop completion certificate, many of whom we continue to work with on a one-to-one basis.
