Webinar Recap: Integrating the Value of Sustainability into a Small Business Model

On October 17th, 2021, the Pace University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) co-hosted a webinar about sustainability in business and impacts on the Environment, Social Structure, and Governance Process (ESG) with the New York SBDC network. Pace SBDC Regional Director Andrew Flamm kicked off the session by framing the discussion and then introduced the webinar's co-presenters, Steven Mezzio, Ph.D., CPA, and Associate Dean and Executive Director of the Center for Sustainable Business for Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, and Richard Kravitz, Editor in Chief of The CPA Journal.

The presenters helped attendees understand ESG context, terminology, approaches, and applications, while also discussing the steps a small business can take in strategically integrating and reporting ESG impacts and outcomes into their respective operations. They also highlighted the benefits associated with integrating ESG into a small business model, such as a more resilient supply chain, establishing ESG criteria for product/service development and vendor selection, attracting customers, partners and employees, and brand enhancement in the marketplace.
