Join the Pace University Small Business Development Center (Pace SBDC) and Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) for a series of hands-on, online trainings focused on crowdfunding.

Session One: Is Crowdfunding for Me? (April 11, 6pm)

In this session, we'll discuss what crowdfunding is, how it happens, and how entrepreneurs can prepare both their networks and their businesses for a successful crowdfunding raise.

Session Two: Exploring Crowdfunding Platforms (April 18, 6pm)

In this session, we'll learn about the different forms of crowdfunding, what types of businesses and projects each form is best suited for, and we'll hear from several different platforms about their offerings and how to find success using their platform.

Session Three: Storytelling and Fundraising (April 25, 6pm)

This session focuses on marketing your campaign and telling a compelling story that builds trust with your customer, confidence in your business, and encourages supporters to fund and share your crowdfunding campaign. We'll also hear from Crowdfund Better, a platform with additional resources and training on crowdfunding. 

Session Four: After the Raise (May 2, 6pm)

In our final session, we'll explore creative ways of leveraging crowdfunding towards other financing vehicles. We'll also discuss strategies for keeping supporters engaged and carrying the momentum from a campaign into long-term business success.

What Entrepreneurs Need to Know About Contracts

NELP Remote Small Business Legal Clinic

The City Bar Justice Center’s Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project (NELP) is partnering with the Pace SBDC and the Brooklyn Public Library’s Business & Career Center to offer a virtual small business legal clinic. This clinic, conducted by NELP, is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to meet with a team of pro bono attorneys to discuss legal issues related to their small businesses, such as intellectual property rights, contracts/agreements, business structure and incorporation, commercial leasing and more. NELP's small business legal clinics provide entrepreneurs with free legal advice during a 45-minute consultation.

• Risks that an NDA can help mitigate (and risks that an NDA won’t mitigate)

• Understanding key contractual provisions of an NDA;

• How to protect your small business with an NDA

• How to protect yourself as an individual who is asked to sign an NDA.

Contracts & Risk Management for Small Business Owners & Entrepreneurs

The Pace University Small Business Development Center will host a webinar with Dr. Jessica A. Magaldi to introduce small business owners and entrepreneurs to issues related to contracts and risk management, including the importance and significance of:

 

• Contracts and mutual assent

• Risks and responsibilities of the contractual relationship

• Assessing business risk for working with Letter Agreements, Memoranda of Understanding, Letters of Intent, and other less formal contract documents

• Understanding key contractual elements and clauses to mitigate risk and spot issues on which to seek legal assistance

• Working effectively with counsel.
