New Small Business Grant Sources
This week, we are highlighting new small business grant programs targeted towards storefront merchants, Brooklyn-based startups, visual artists and more! This includes the Village Recovery Grant Program, in which Pace University SBDC will serve as technical assistance provider for the fund. Read further to learn more about the grant programs and eligibility requirements.
$10,000 COVID-19 Recovery grants for NYC Merchants
The Village Recovery Grant Program will provide $10,000 working capital grants to at least ten storefront businesses.
To be eligible, merchants must
be currently operating with a commercial storefront lease OR planning to sign a storefront lease in the Greenwich Village, East Village and West Village neighborhoods.
Businesses must have less than 50 employees
Gross revenue of less than $5,000,000 annually
have 10 or fewer locations.
Merchants who receive the funding will be connected with a Pace University SBDC advisor to receive one-on-one assistance on business planning, including licensing, operations, financing, marketing and/or legal issues. The deadline to apply is May 31, 2021.
Seed Funding Opportunity for Brooklyn-based Startups
The Brooklyn Public Library’s Annual PowerUP! Business Plan Competition provides Brooklyn-based startup entrepreneurs with the opportunity to win seed money. Grant awards include $20,000 for the first place winner, $10,000 for the second place and $5,000 for third place.
To be eligible, businesses must:
be Brooklyn-based
have earned less than $10,000.
have been in operation for less than one year
meet with a business advisor (the Pace SBDC can serve in this role)
attend a minimum of 3 PowerUP! webinar classes
have a Brooklyn Public Library Card

$10,000 to help New York Small Businesses Relaunch, Rebuild or Expand
1010 WINS is partnering with Dime Community Bank to launch Small Business $10K Challenge where the grand prize winner gets a $10,000 grant to relaunch, rebuild or expand their business.
To be eligible, businesses must
be located in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut
have less than 100 employees
submit a brief written essay on how they would use the $10k grant to help rebuild, launch or grow their business.
Five finalists will be selected to present an elevator pitch to a panel of judges. The deadline to apply is May 9, 2021 at 11:59 ET. For other small business grants and seed financing, check out our grants page.
Funding opportunity for visual artists
The Artwork Archives Art Business Accelerator Grant awards visual artists with cash grants of $2,500 each and educational resources to grow and manage their art careers.

To be eligible, visual artists must:
have a record of participation in the arts for at least two years
be able to provide a W-9 tax form
be working to better their communities or address community issues through their work
demonstrate high artistic quality, innovation and creativity
Video, music or dance submissions are not eligible. The deadline for this grant cycle is May 14, 2021.
