In December, the Pace SBDC co-hosted a convening and small business walking tour with Shop Small Bushwick, bringing together community leaders, elected officials, and local entrepreneurs to highlight small business support resources.
The event opened with remarks from Andrew Flamm, Director of Pace University Small Business Development Center (SBDC), who shared information on SBDC advisory services and in-person satellite locations serving entrepreneurs throughout Brooklyn. Brittany Furnari, co-owner of Nose Best, also spoke about her efforts organizing Shop Small Bushwick and the importance of community-driven support for local businesses.
The tour welcomed a broad group of civic and economic development leaders, including Matt Coleman, SBA Regional Administrator; Evelyn Cruz, District Director for Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez; and representatives from the offices of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Assemblywoman Maritza Davila, Councilmember Jennifer Gutiérrez, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and the NYC Department of Small Business Services.
Following brief remarks, attendees participated in a walking tour of the neighborhood, visiting several Shop Small Bushwick businesses:
Eugene Candy - 16 Wilson Ave
fronk. - 87 George St
Bushwick Bark - 175 Knickerbocker Ave
Octopus Records - 204 Irving Ave
Harmony Vintage - 210 Irving Ave
Hive Mind Books & Cafe - 219 Irving Ave
Nose Best - 96 Knickerbocker Ave
The tour provided an opportunity to connect directly with business owners and highlight the diversity, creativity, and resilience of Bushwick’s small business community.
