MWBE contractor series

The Pace University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) partnered with Turner Construction to launch the MWBE & Small Business Contractor Bonding Preparedness Training & Technical Assistance program. The free six-week series was formed to help firms in construction and related fields develop strategies for landing new contract opportunities, and included sessions on How to Read an RFP, Insurance & Bonding, Access to Capital, Marketing & Procurement, Construction Law & Safety, and Sustainability.

The program was comprised of presentations from Turner professionals as well as a CPA, broker of insurance/bonding, small business lenders, and reps from the MTA, Empire State Development (ESD) and the US Small Business Administration (SBA) to discuss the Small Business Mentoring Program, NYS MWBE certification and 8(a) programs respectively; and provided guidance on how to become prequalified to secure contract opportunities with Turner Construction. In all, we had nearly 30 graduates, a number of whom we continue to work with on a one-to-one basis. For more information on the program, please read the press release.
